Do Justice.

What am I willing to give up that my neighbor may flourish?"

At-Home Guide for Engagement

In July, our High School Summer Trip participants had the chance to gather and learn from diverse community leaders with Other+Wise, our partner organization. To adapt to the pandemic, Other+Wise put together a panel of the organizations we would have met on our trip and created video content especially for Christ the Servant.

Now, you are invited to engage with these community leaders through our At-Home Guides:

Part 1: Panelists respond to the question:
  • How has COVID-19 affected you and the communities in which you work and serve?
Part 2: Panelists respond to the question:
  • “What are some ways that we can all contribute to the work of racial justice at this time?”

What does Scripture teach us?
The following resources are helpful to explore how to read scripture and understand context, including passages that are used to exclude the LGBTQ community and passages that demonstrate inclusion and reconciliation.
  • Reconciling Scripture for Lutherans by Austen Hartke and Emmy Kegler: This Scripture resource sheds light on how Lutheran's approach reading scripture, and then applies this to passages about gender and sexuality.
  • One Coin Found by Emmy Kegler: A memoir about her complex relationship with the Bible as a Lutheran pastor, life-long Christian and queer woman.
  • Unclobber by Colby Martin: This book (and free cheat sheets) unpack the way the Bible has been used to harm and exclude the LGBTQ community.
