Special Access: Illustrated Ministries “Do not be Afraid”
Advent Devotional

Christ the Servant is providing this intergenerational, interactive devotion to our community through “Illustrated Ministries.” This year’s theme is “Do not be Afraid”- and you are invited to hold onto God’s message of hope even in a time that feels so uncertain. Explore how these themes affect your life and faith- on your own, with your family, or others of your choosing.

There is a devotion for each week of Advent that includes scripture, doodles, stories, and prompts for conversation in your home. CLICK to access the password protected devotional resource.

Light an Advent Wreath

Source: Bloom in Faith
Light your advent wreath daily or weekly along with worship. Each week, light an additional candle. The four candles stand for God’s promises of hope, love, joy and peace for us. And the light is a reminder of God’s love and light shining in the darkness.
Don’t have an Advent wreath? You can make a simple Advent wreath at home. Watch Marissa’s craft tutorial to see how to make two different wreath-crafts.

Advent Devotions

Faith in Action Network

There are so many ways we put our faith in action. The Faith in Action Network is a platform to:
  1. Facilitate collective learning, advocacy, justice work and ally-ship and invite others to come along with you
  2. Amplify the impact our community can have on creating a more just and equitable world
  3. Build connections and community within CTS around issues we care about

Adult Learning Hour

Adult Learning Hour will be exploring a wide range of topics this year from death and preparing for it, exploring faith formation at home and in the church, and exploring the ELCA's new "Sanctuary Denomination" designation.

Youth Learning Hour

Youth Learning Hour is a time for middle and high school students to gather in a casual environment to build community, talk and learn about meaningful topics, and have fun together. Each gathering includes checking in with each other, some breakfast treats, exploring a topic or theme and playing a game. All topics were generated by youth at the beginning of the year.

CURRENT TOPIC- Through February 9th

Community Violence and Trauma
Current society is marked by ways that violence and trauma are impacting communities, schools and individuals. Together, we will process how this violence impacts us, what we can do about it and how our faith comes into play.

COMING UP

February 12th
Join us for a guest appearance from Rainbow Trail- Daniel Kirschbaum will share his story and take questions.

Understanding Heaven and Hell

Let's explore popular question and topic together. Don't worry, we will lighten it up with games at the end of each session.

Mental Health and Emotions

Young people consistently are managing their own mental health and emotions, and are often worried about the health and safety of loved ones around them. Come, share your experience, and learn more about how we manage difficult emotions.

Intergenerational Learning Hour Events

Throughout the year, we will be connecting during Learning Hour as a wider community. These events will be for all ages and be opportunities to learn side by side, across age groupings. Sometimes we will recognize important community milestones, or celebrate the liturgical calendar and cultural events, or do service together. Please see these events as a chance to lean in to deeper community and wider ways of learning.

Faith in Real Life
(for little Lutherans)

Wondering how to realistically incorporate faith moments into every day life with your infant or toddler? Here are a few suggestions from Dr. Dawn Rundman. Check out her book, Little Steps, Big Faith.
  • Good Morning!
    • As you pick up your child up from their crib or bed, say: "This is the day that the Lord has made!" (Psalm 118:24) I'm so happy to see you and share this new day!
  • Buckle Blessing:
    • As you buckle your child in their carseat, make the sign of the cross on their forehead and say, "God loves you and so do I."
  • Table Prayer
    • Five second prayer: "Thank you God for this good food. A-men!" Sooner than you think, your little one will join in.
  • Bath Time Bible Stories
    • While your child plays in the bath, read one to two bible stories from your children's bible. Keep the bible by the bathtub: it's okay if it gets a little wet and loved.
